Catherine Farrar

Ms. Catherine Farrar taught elementary school aged children for over twenty years in four states spread across the United States.  The story “Oiyah, The Trash Eater” was inspired by her students in Fort Defiance, Arizona on the Navajo Reservation.  These first grade students were especially important to her experience as a teacher, artist and writer.  She and the students wrote many stories about adventures in and outside the classroom but Oiyah was her favorite.  She brought the story home to share with her own two young children and it became part of their childhoods as well.  Now in her late seventies and retired from teaching, she is pleased to share the story with a wider audience.
